SACC will be visiting Anastasia State Park on Wednesday, May 24th. We will meet at 5:30 AM outside of the main gate and enter the park as a group. Lisa Byers has planned a great photo walk and gotten permission for us to enter the park early. We will be going over the walkover to the beach, then walking North to the clearing where you can view the lighthouse. The distance to the clearing from the parking lot is about a mile and a half. Sunrise and low tide will be at 6:30 AM on this date. There is a bit of soft sand to get through to make it to the waters edge, but being at low tide, there should be a pretty decent walking surface for the majority of the distance.
Recommendations for lenses: - A telephoto lens that can capture birds from a distance. - A wide angle, that can capture the beautiful landscapes. Depending on how calm or choppy the ocean is, a waterproof or water resistant cell phone or camera equipment to capture close up shots of waves. The club will pay cost of attendance ($4 dollars for a car with one person, or $8 dollars for a car with more than one person (up to eight)). To hold your place on this trip, please email Lynne Blow below |

The Saint Augustine Camera Club has organized two very special field trips to observe and photograph least terns at Anastasia State Park on June 7th and 16th.
Least terns are an endangered species. Our field trip guides will be SACC’s own Linda Burek, an accomplished photographer, birder and author, and Sue Killeen, an expert birder, and a pro birder for Anastasia State Park.
To protect the nesting birds, attendance is limited to 10 pre-registered and pre-paid SACC members per day.
Sue and Linda will coach us on how to best take photos of the birds ethically, so as not to disturb them, and take us to nesting spots at the park. If we are lucky, we should see some chicks that time of year.
Ms. Killeen is also an ambassador for the least terns and can answer any questions you have. Sue has also generously offered to bring her Swarovski scope. It can be used to take pictures with a cell phone. You hold the phone up to the eyepiece and if held correctly, you can get a nice picture. You can, of course, bring your own equipment for photographing the birds at a distance.
This will be an early morning trip. Linda and Sue will determine the exact time and starting place based on nesting behavior when we get closer to June.
Anastasia State park charges $4 admission for a single occupant car or $8 per car for up to four people. The Saint Augustine Camera Club is charging $10 per person, which will be donated to Friends of Anastasia State Park – A Citizen Support Organization (CSO) For Anastasia State Park
Please sign up here to reserve your spot on this special trip on either June 7th to June 16th (not both.)
