Next Month October Assignment:
2017 SACC President's Statement
This September will mark the seventh anniversary of the Saint Augustine Camera Club (SACC). The club started with seven women around a dining room table and has grown to well over one hundred members. SACC members are an eclectic mix ranging from active and retired professional photographers to beginners who are picking up a camera for the first time or after a long hiatus from the film days of old.
Monthly Meetings: SACC has monthly meetings in the conference room at Watson Realty on US 1 South. Usually about sixty members and guests attend, all with a zest for photography. Meetings start promptly at 6 pm and finish up usually around 8 pm. From January through November, meetings feature a guest speaker who makes a 45-minute presentation followed by a Q&A session. A short break follows, then the meeting reconvenes with brief club announcements including a helpful hint segment by Vice-President Laryssa Gobets. The remainder of the meeting is spent reviewing and critiquing member images from our monthly assignment, which features a topic like “shiny” or “reflections,” with members submitting photographs exemplifying the theme. Most submissions for group discussion are projected digital images, but twice a year we present the photos in an 8 1/2" x 11" print format. December is our members-only holiday party and card contest.
Sessions for Beginners: The second Tuesday of the month SACC has an informal meeting at the St Augustine Beach City Hall Meeting Room, where members share useful information and offer one-on-one assistance. These meetings start at 6:30 pm and end around 8 pm. Guests are welcomed.
Field Trips and Workshops: The club plans regular field trips with interesting photographic opportunities as well as workshops presenting new techniques. Be sure to click the MENU button on the upper left of this page to check out what field trips and workshop field trips are scheduled.
- On July 29, SACC members will present some basic camera instructions at the Southeast Branch Library. Classes are from 1 to 4 pm and are open to the public.
- On July 28 and 29, SACC will sponsor our first Youth Photography Workshop for ages 12-17 to be held at the St Augustine Beach City Hall. Classes and fieldwork will be from 9 am to 4 pm both days. The workshop cost is $100, and two tuition-free scholarships are to be awarded. The course instructors are Ed Beckett from Flagler Palm Coast High School and Mary Jean Campanellie, a Professional Photographers of America award winner. There will be a special appearance by noted sports photographer Ron Modra, who is also Guy Harvey Outpost's official photographer. Ron Modra and Guy Harvey Outpost are providing Canon cameras for use by all of the students. We have tentative plans for a photo shoot on the second day at the newly-renovated Guy Harvey Outpost Hotel on the beach. Participant photos will be featured on the Guy Harvey Facebook Page as well as the SACC Page.
- We are in the planning stages for a Young Photographers Photo Contest to be sponsored by the 2018 Florida's Birding & Photo Fest that will be open to all Youth Workshop participants.
Whether you are a long-time resident, just moving to St. Augustine or planning a visit, please feel free to join us at any of our events.
