Welcome to the Saint Augustine Camera Club (SACC), a photography club in St Augustine, Florida, the nation’s oldest city. We are an organization dedicated to providing our members with educational information and enjoyable activities in the field of photography. Our site contains basic information about our club.
SACC just celebrated our first anniversary, and was able to look back at a year of learning and growing. First, we found a suitable meeting site and set a regular monthly meeting date. The club meets the third Thursday of each month at the Saint Augustine Beach City Hall (corner of A1A and 16th Street) from 6-8 pm.
During the year, SACC had a series of interesting speakers and presentations on various aspects of photography. Theresa Segal captivated members with her history of the photographic process, and nature photographer Jack Rogers had members on their stomachs shooting shore birds. Field trips included Viera Wetlands, Princess Place Preserve, St Augustine Lighthouse, Alligator Farm, Lightner Museum and downtown to catch holiday lights and again to shoot the super moon. Along the way members picked up awards from the Flagler Art League Photography Show (five of 16 awards going to SACC members), Washington Oaks Gardens Photo Contest, My Park Photos web site, and the Florida Wildlife Federation Photo Contest.
Our objective is to become familiar with photographic equipment and techniques in order to obtain the best results, and get out and have fun while doing it. In what we hope will be the first of many such events, SACC member and nature photographer Jim Hughes taught an eight-hour workshop on the basic operation of the camera and techniques to get desired results.
SACC will continue to explore the various facets of photography – from the basic operation of the camera and the software packages used to enhance photographs, through printing methods and web presentations. Monthly assignments range from architecture, to landscapes, people, nature, events, abstracts and everything in-between. These assignments are designed to get members out of their photographic comfort zones to explore new subjects and methods. The critiques on these assignments are entertaining and informative as members share their knowledge and expertise.
Our plans for the coming year include our first annual juried photography show, which is scheduled for late February.
